Meet my new friend, Meri. I got to know her recently during my first trip to India. What an impressive little lady. She was so eager to practice her English with me. “Miss, what’s your favorite color?” “Miss, look at my drawing.” “Miss, I like your bracelet.” She smiled and posed for pictures, and then giggled with her friends when I turned my camera for her to see.
She has come a long way.
Before Meri came to CRI’s Rajah Children’s Home, both of her parents worked in a field. With two incomes, they could provide two meals a day for their family. They could survive. But when Meri’s father fell ill, her mother became the sole provider. The family began to acquire debts at the local shops and could only afford one meal a day. Even after the debt collectors emptied their home of belongings, they still owed money.
Meri’s parents heard about our children’s home and asked for help. They wanted her to have food, shelter, clothing, an education—things they could not provide for her. Now Meri has all of those things, because of others who stepped in to help—people like you. Now she smiles and giggles with her friends, she eats well, she goes to school, she wants to be a teacher. Meri has hope for a future free from poverty because of her sponsor. Thank you!
